My mother-in-law actually purchased this toy as a gift for our two year old's birthday. He loved the bright colors and picking up the shapes but his almost five year old brother really took charge with this one and showed him how to use it. Both boys LOVE it and giggle as they build, unbuild, and rebuild with the gears. We're looking into purchasing additional gears. We see this toy keeping the interest of our children for a long while.
